Abby Robinson is a visual artist based in New York, NY. She received her MFA from Columbia University in 2022. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings and Architectural Digest, and exhibited in group exhibitions at The Fireplace Project, Half Gallery, and Golsa Gallery. She has shown at Art Basel and The Armory Show, and presented a solo installation at the Independent Art Fair in 2023, followed by a solo exhibition at Tilton Gallery in 2024, where she is represented. She was selected as a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2024.
Robinson creates abstract paintings, sculptures, drawings, and installations that function as experimental sites that explore the formal range of visual experience. Through abstraction and play, she brings space, color, scale, and form into dynamic conversation. Her process centers on material improvisation, revealing moments of alignment, tension, and divergence. Working with metal, plaster, foil, fabric, tape, clay, wood, textiles, and found objects, she develops a deep intimacy with each material through focused, sustained engagement. This approach generates ongoing questions about perception, allowing each work to unfold as both a physical structure and a perceptual inquiry.
